A comment on my post about rs12913832 pointed out that one can get allele frequencies for that SNP here, on the ALFRED site. I had visited the ALFRED site before, but had forgotten about it. It has allele frequencies for a lot more populations than those in the HGDP dataset.
Below I have presented the ALFRED data in the same way that I presented the HGDP data, with the populations in decreasing order of the frequency of the G allele associated with blue eyes. Some populations appear multiple times, because there are multiple samples for those populations.
In addition to the Karitiana, the Surui, and the Maya, the G allele is also present in the Muscogee, the Quechua, and the Cheyenne.
The Muscogee, also known as the Creek or Creeks, are originally from the Southeastern United States and are descendants of the mound builders of the Mississippian culture. The description for the ALFRED Muscogee sample says that “These people are, by their own report, not admixed with Europeans”.
The Quechua are the descendants of the Incas. The ALFRED Quechua sample “was collected with informed consent in Lima, Peru, from individuals who lived in the more remote Andes and were judged by a local anthropologist to be typical Quechuan speakers”.
The Cheyenne are originally from Minnesota, and are one of the Algonquian peoples. The Algonquian peoples have the highest frequency of the European mitochondrial haplogroup X2 in the Americas—up to 25%. The ALFRED Cheyenne sample is “from a number of small communities (population: 300-6000) in western Oklahoma”.
