Analyses of a Copper Age Hungarian genome

Below are the results of analyses of the CO1 sample from the Copper Age Baden culture of Hungary. The sample is from the Apc-Berekalja I site, and it is dated to 2700–2900 BC.

CO1 was female, and her mt-SNP calls show that she belonged to mitochondrial haplogroup H*.

CO1 had two copies of both of the two major Caucasoid depigmentation mutations. She likely had dark brown or light brown hair and brown eyes. She didn’t have any copies of the mutation that confers the ability to digest milk into adulthood.

The admixture results for CO1 are similar to the results for KO2, an Early Neolithic sample from around 3,000 years earlier. A couple of differences are that CO1 had more of the North European components and less of the Caucasus components than KO2. Like KO2, CO1 didn’t have any of the K12b Gedrosia component, which is associated with Y haplogroup R1b.
