K = 4 admixture analysis of ancient American genomes

Originally posted on July 24, 2015

At the bottom of this post is a plot for a K = 4 ADMIXTURE analysis that includes 14 ancient samples from the Americas. Above the plot are the admixture percentages for the ancient American samples.

The analysis confirms the significant additional Caucasoid admixture in the Chinchorro mummy sample that was detected by the calculator results in my previous post.

The numbers of SNPs available for this analysis for each of the ancient American samples are below.

Micmac MARC1492 47745
Brazilian Enoque65 24869
Pericú BC29 17981
Patagonian AM66 9968
Patagonian AM73 7397
Mex mummy MOM6 3919
Fuegian MA572 3824
Pericú BC27 3817
Chinchorro mummy 3587
Pericú BC28 3513
Pericú BC23 3512
Mex mummy F9 2259
Patagonian AM72 1530
Fuegian MA575 1239

Note that BC28, BC23, F9, AM72, and MA575 all have fewer SNPs than the Chinchorro sample, but they all have much less of the Caucasoid component than the Chinchorro sample. It can therefore be concluded that the results for the Chinchorro sample cannot be explained as error due to a low number of SNPs.
